This article will describe that how to install the SQL server 2005 on Windows XP. Normally a wrong step in installation for beginners results in non working SQL Server instance on his windows XP. To install the SQL Server 2005 on Windows XP follow below steps:
The firts screen will be the license agreement screen, accept the terms and proceed.
The next screen will check the prerequisites for SQL Server 2005.
After prerequisites, System configuration will be checked.
If everything goes fine, then license key, name and company will be asked. Provide the required information and click on next button.
Then select SQL Server Database Services and Workstation components, Books Online and development tools to install.
In Instance Name screen, provide any instance name, here PORTFOLIOCENTER name is used.
then select use the built-in System account as shown in below screen.
Select Windows Authentication mode in next screen.
For collation Settings leave the next screen as it is.
Error and usage report depends on your interest.
click on next button.
Setup Progress screen will come, depending on your CPU speed it may take 10 minutes to 30 minutes to install.
After installation, restart the windows and you have completed the setup.
